Privacy Policy
Last updated: September 3, 2026
This Privacy Policy explains how Interpoll (“Interpoll”, “we”, “us”, or “our”) collects, uses, and protects information when you use interpoll.app (the “Service”). By using the Service, you agree to the practices described here.
Interpoll is an internet poll site: it shows visitors random public polls and quizzes to vote on and comment on. You can browse and participate without an account, or sign in to create your own polls.
Who this applies to
The Service has two kinds of participants:
- Anonymous visitors, who can vote and comment without signing in.
- Registered users, who sign in with a third-party account to create polls.
Different information is collected for each, as described below.
Information we collect
Information from anonymous visitors
When you visit the Service without signing in, we assign your browser a random, opaque identifier and store it in a cookie so we can remember which polls you have already voted on or skipped, and keep your comments coherent within a single poll. This identifier is not linked to your real-world identity.
We record the votes you cast, the polls you skip, and the comments and likes you submit, associated only with that random identifier.
Information from registered users (Google, Discord)
We use social sign-in only — you do not create a password with us. When you sign in with Google or Discord, we receive a limited set of profile information from that provider so we can create and maintain your account:
- Your name (used as your display name on polls and comments you create).
- Your email address (see below — we receive it but do not use it to identify you or contact you).
- Your profile picture, if the provider supplies one.
- Which provider you used to sign in.
We request only basic profile information. We do not request access to your contacts, files, calendar, or any other data held by Google or Discord, and we never receive your password for those services.
How we treat your email address
Your email address is included in the basic profile the provider returns during sign-in, and it cannot be excluded from that sign-in. However, we do not use your email address to identify your account, and we do not send you email. Your identity on Interpoll is tied to the specific provider account you signed in with — not to your email — and we never display your email to other users.
Before storing it, we transform your email into an internal, provider-tagged form rather than keeping your address as-is. A direct consequence is that we do not link accounts across providers by email: if you sign in with Google and also with Discord using the same underlying email, Interpoll treats these as two separate, independent accounts. This is a deliberate choice so that signing in with a different provider gives you a distinct identity.
Some providers may not return an email address at all; where that happens we generate an internal placeholder value solely so your account can be created. If you hide your profile picture in your account settings, we retain it but stop displaying it to other users.
Content you create
We store the polls, votes, comments, comment likes, and skips you submit so the Service can function — for example, to tally results and show your voting history.
How we use your information
We use the information above only to operate and improve the Service, including to:
- Show you polls you have not yet voted on or skipped.
- Record and display votes, comments, likes, and quiz results.
- Attribute polls and comments to the correct author or pseudonym.
- Let registered users create, edit, and delete their own polls.
- Maintain your session so you stay signed in.
- Protect the Service against abuse, fraud, and spam.
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not use your Google or Discord profile data for advertising.
How your information is shown to others
- Polls you create publicly are shown to other visitors, along with their results.
- Comments you post are shown publicly. If you are signed in, your display name and (unless hidden) your profile picture appear alongside them. If you are anonymous, comments are shown under a per-poll pseudonym (for example, “Keen Koala”) that is stable within a single poll but cannot be linked to you across different polls.
- We never expose your email address or account identifiers to other users.
Cookies
We use a small number of cookies that are essential to the Service:
- A session cookie to keep you signed in (registered users).
- An anonymous identifier cookie to remember your activity across visits (anonymous visitors). This cookie lasts up to roughly 400 days and is renewed as you continue to use the Service.
We do not use third-party advertising or cross-site tracking cookies.
Data sharing
We share information only in limited circumstances:
- Service providers who host and run the Service on our behalf (for example, our hosting and database infrastructure), bound to protect the data.
- Authentication providers (Google, Discord) that you choose to sign in with, as part of the sign-in flow.
- Legal requirements, where we are required to disclose information to comply with applicable law or to protect the rights, safety, and property of Interpoll or others.
Data retention and deletion
We keep your information for as long as your account exists or as needed to provide the Service.
Registered users can delete their account at any time from the account settings page. When you delete your account, we remove your profile information and disassociate your account from the content you created. To preserve the integrity of public polls and discussions, content you contributed (such as votes and comments) may be retained in an anonymized form that is no longer linked to your identity.
Security
We take reasonable technical measures to protect your information, such as transmitting data over encrypted connections and storing authentication identifiers as secure, opaque tokens. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, however, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
Children’s privacy
The Service is not directed to children under 13 (or the minimum age required in your jurisdiction), and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has provided us information, please contact us so we can remove it.
International users
The Service may be operated from, and your information processed in, countries other than your own. By using the Service you consent to that processing.
Your choices
- You can use the Service anonymously without providing profile information.
- Registered users can update their display name, hide their profile picture, or delete their account at any time from account settings.
- You can clear cookies through your browser, though doing so will reset your anonymous activity history.
